Prez Jon emceed, thanked all of this year’s volunteers for their help and dedication, presented twenty Dezzie Awards to deserving members, and raffled off all of our donated door prizes. Kent & Roger created a “pop quiz” on all things Ducati and DESMO. Sandro took home the gold for the second year, besting all others. The gold wasn’t really gold. It was actually black-annodized aluminum--a billet gas cap courtesy of Yoyodyne that will serve to dress up Sandro’s 916.

    Yoyodyne wasn’t our only sponsor, of course, although proprietor Fred was on hand to enjoy the camaraderie (along with Karl from Ducati NA, Steve, Jay & Sean from ECS, Goldcoast’s new mechanic, and Nick & Marian from Rockwell). Advanstar Communications donated discount coupons for all (and free tickets for some) to the January bike show. Agip, Arai, Avon Tire, Axio, Cliff’s Cycle Revolution, Dowco, Ducati NA, European Cycle Services, 1st Heat, Fulmer Helmets, Go Pro, Joe Rocket, Klotz, Motion Pro, NESBA, Nolan, On Guard, PJ1, Rockwell Cycle, Shift Racing, Tech Spec, Tony’s Trackdays, Trebour Motorcycles, and Tucker Rocky also donated…many of them continuously supporting DESMO over the years. And they all have our gratitude.

    There were some great prizes – like leather jackets, trackdays, and cameras. We suggested that everyone bring a shopping bag. None heeded the warning, so many struggled with carrying their plundered booty, or raided the trash pile for boxes or bags.

    The Dezzies are always great fun—this year marked our sixth year, and we were able to crown only our third “Posts the Most Award” recipient, Boris, who (with the help of his iPhone) knocked off reigning champion Gary and his two-year winning streak. Graham was this year’s big winner with two awards—the booby prize (“Crash Test Dummy”) and “Best Dismount” for leaping and tumbling over his fallen motorcycle. Remarkably, the feat was captured on video by Martin, and played over and over again to the amusement of the guests.

    DESMO handed out ear plug holders (and earplugs) to all…part of our continuing goal to promote safe motorcycling. Every member got a few, so there’s no excuse not to use them while riding. We’ll be selling these on our Shop page, too, so stock up if you missed out. The containers are also great for loose change, medication, or even spare fuses. They’re perfect to keep in you jacket pocket or your tankbag.

    There were mounds of great food, hundreds of bite-size desserts, and bags of Lindt chocolates... I haven’t seen that much food since our last club ride.
